Liquid Cell Technology to view 3D Images
Scientists discovered a new liquid cell technology which directly allows the researchers to view the three-dimensional images of living biological structures and materials under the electron microscopy. Liquid-Cell Electron Tomography provides a technical advancement to study dynamic materials. Scientists can analyse the interactions between the host and the pathogens in our body by using the promo chips along with the liquid cell technology. This technique assists in viewing the molecular mechanisms once the virus is being introduced into the cell. This technique represents the world's nano scale CAT scan (Computed Tomography) in a liquid environment. Some researchers reported that insights into bacteriophage and host bacterium interactions will offer a method to kill antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The images taken by this technology revealed the structural features of the bacteriophage that were previously not well understood.
Liquid cell technology has grown rapidly but it has been limited to two-dimensional images. In Computed Tomography, the slices of the brain images are collected and then they are stacked into three-dimensional images by using the Computer Software. But the recent innovation in this technique is that they used a copper grid that is coated with a carbon layer and covered that with a silicon nitride chip. The design of the chip fits into all type of microscope holder, so it can be universally adapted for any material. The researchers expect that this technique will be widely adopted in both fields like life sciences and materials science.
