Magnetic Nanoparticles dissolve blood clots

Blood is the most important constituent of the human body since it delivers oxygen and nutrients to each and every part of the cell and collect the metabolic wastes from the tissues for excretion. Blood is pumped by the heart and it is circulated throughout the body via major blood vessels. Only Blood carries the hemoglobin content and also maintains the body temperature,

Sometimes, there will be the deposition of fat in the tissues might happen due to improper diet, lack of exercises, obesity, overeating etc,. This will ultimately lead to the formation of blood clot. That will block the blood flow to the particular part of the body. Blood clot in the brain will result in stroke, in heart, it will cause myocardial infarction and heart attack , thrombosis in the blood vessel.

The only way to prevent this is to remove or dissolve the blood clot. Initially, surgeries are made to remove the bigger clots. For small clots, medications are prescribed.

Currently, doctors are using some clot dissolving drugs that may contain some enzymes. Once, they have reached the blood stream, they will slowly start dissolving the clots. But the major disadvantage of this technique is that they may affect healthier cells and tissues and there may be few chances of attacking those enzymes by our immune system.

To overcome these kind of issues, scientists discovered a novel technique of dissolving blood clots. They developed a composite material in which there will be a porous magnetite coupled with urokinase molecules. This material can be used as an injectable solution of nanoparticles that are accurately directed to the clot by the use of an external magnet. The foremost advantage is that this method highly depends on targeted drug delivery so that they will not affect the nearby organs or tissues of our body and will not be attacked by the immune system.

The enzyme urokinase used is highly safe and it is used as a thrombolytic agent. They should not cause any harmful effect to the inner organs. This method can dissolve 4,000 clots more faster and better than the current enzyme drugs.
